First, in the event it interests you, here is my resume.

I’m Adam Turek, a designer in the Denver metro area of Colorado. I specialize in graphic, user experience (UX), and user interface (UI) design. I’m currently a freelance designer, and I’ve been designing for over 6 years with organizations such as Oak Ridge National Laboratory, USAA, Ball Corporation (through its subsidiary, Ball Aerospace), and as a volunteer designer with the American Red Cross. I’m a born and raised Midwesterner and I’ve been creating art since I was old enough to hold a pencil. I spent 10+ years in the healthcare, education, and real estate industries – primarily in the marketing and communications space – until finally deciding to hew to my artistic nature and pursue my passion for design. I originally earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, and later returned to school to study Graphic and Web Design at The Art Institutes. More recently, I earned a Master’s degree in UX Design through the Maryland Institute College of Art and a UX Certification with an Interaction Design Specialty from the Nielsen Norman Group.

Why am I a designer?

I’m a designer because I’ve loved art since I was a kid, and I enjoy solving problems in creative, unconventional ways. Design also provides a venue for people like me who are a bit offbeat, but who love to help others.

What is my work about and what positive impacts can it have?

My work is about trying to visually uncomplicate information for my audience in order to increase retention and satisfaction, reduce confusion and stress, and help users achieve their goals.

What impacts can design have on society?

I believe the highest priorities of design are to voice truth and to help others, and good design can infuse society with these values and catalyze positive changes. Design is a reflection of us all and can be a powerful tool; therefore, we must be careful to design with the motivation to enrich others’ lives and help the widest audience possible by serving as a source of unity and inclusivity.

What do I bring to my design work?

I bring strong values and instincts, perceptiveness, thoughtfulness, and an open mind to my design work. I believe diversity in all its forms enhances our lives and our creativity. I also believe we serve others best by engaging our own better natures. My designs skew towards minimalism and prioritize clear communication, and I’m always working to find the right balance between form and function.
